Using a backing board as a stiffener inside your comic bag helps keep the comic rigid and protects its corners, edges, and spine from being crushed.
This museum-grade archival board is made from 100% alpha-cellulose and is buffered with a 3% calcium carbonate solution. It is acid-free (with an alkaline pH of 8.0-9.0), lignin-free, and contaminant-free, making it suitable for conservation purposes. Our material meets the Library of Congress Archival Standards. An acid-free board can trap migrating acids in paper and neutralize them, while a buffered board prevents migrating acids from entering the object, thereby preventing damage.
Recycle symbol 21 means that this board is recyclable in curbside pickup containers.

I will say the backings are nice and thick. The issue is that these backings should have been bigger for New Comics. They are the same size as the comic. For protection there should be at least 1/8" on all four sides. The other major issue is when they come pre-packaged the boards are nice and flat. The moment you take them out, there is a curvature to them. This curvature will not fix itself over time even in the bag. This will result in damage to said comic. Average boards that are much thinner than these are more resilient to bending than these.
