Frequently Asked Questions
Question:I want to protect my rare books with mylar. The books are "normal" size fiction and nonfiction. I suppose that I should use a sheet to do this, cutting a sheet to the size needed and the wrapping the book in the sheet with the ends of the sheet folded over the book covers. Two questions: 1) Is that the right way to use mylar to protect a book? 2) What size sheet do you recommend for this project?

Response:Your best option might be these: https://www.bagsunlimited.com/category/359/book-jacket-covers
Question:I think I need a thicker sheet than 1.5. My rare books are older and do not have jackets. I do not want to use anything with an adhesive.
If I want to protect my books with a thicker mylar than 1.5. mil, do you recommend 2 or 4 mil? I guess I can figure out what size to get.
Going back to my original question, is the wrapping technique I described a good way to do this project?

Response:Anything larger than 1.5 mil will not be pliable enough to "wrap" around the books. You won't be able to bend or crease the 2-4mil mylar. What you are trying to do will not work.
